"Anger is a killing thing: it kills the man who angers, for each rage leaves him less than he had been before - it takes something from him."-Louis L'Amour
Louis L'Amour
Louis L'Armour's quotation means that rage eats away at one's self. Every fit of rage takes a piece of one's self until finally there is nothing left but a shell full of anger and rage. Rage can be a dangerous thing. It can be be fatal to one's self, mentally or emotionally. Take Jean Grey for instance. After the second X-Men movie the barrier that was put on her mental powers to keep the Phoenix or her full ability at bay was shattered. In the third movie she comes back however she is under the control of the Phoenix and is uncapable of controlling her full powers which is often triggered by rage.
Due to that barrier, that she had depended on keeping herself and others safe, being shattered she is no longer herself anymore. She is battling with herself and the Phoenix. She tries to battle the Phoenix internally but fails thus the Phoenix takes over and Jean Grey is lost. The last time she is herself she pleads to be killed, Jean doesn't want the Phoenix to cause any one or any body anymore harm and the only way to stop that is to kill her. The significance of this quotation is that rage is something of great power. If uncontrolled you will be lost and will harm others. It can be preventable however as the movie clip showed, once the rage has become too strong there's little hope in finding yourself again...
